CSHRM Receives Platinum EXCEL Award

CLEVELAND, OH, May, 19, 2017 — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded the Cleveland Society for Human Resource Management (Cleveland SHRM) its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the chapter’s accomplishments in 2016.

The award aligns individual chapters and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resources profession.

“Advancing the human resources profession is a daily mission at SHRM and this chapter’s outstanding work this year contributed significantly to that goal,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, President and CEO of SHRM. “Recipients of this prestigious award are those who show a strong commitment to advancing the HR profession through service to the community, local networking, and professional development activities.”

The EXCEL award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum, and each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. Cleveland SHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on their website and information to share with their members about the significance of this award.

“This recognition comes as a result of the hard work and dedication of our nearly 100 volunteers,” said Stephen (Steve) Ligus, President of Cleveland SHRM.  “It is those tireless efforts that have continued to enhance the Cleveland SHRM brand throughout Northeast Ohio.  I am honored to serve with such an incredible group of individuals dedicated to providing a wide-range of programming, professional & educational development and an unwavering commitment to Greater Cleveland.”

 About CSHRM

The Cleveland Society for Human Resource Management (CSHRM) is the local affiliate chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), an international organization comprised of over 275,000+ human resource professionals in over 160 countries.

SHRM is the world's largest organization devoted exclusively to the professional needs of human resource management. Members of our chapter are exposed to the most up-to-date developments and reports in the field. Members also associate with fellow HR professionals, both generalists and specialists from large and small organizations representing manufacturing, services, health care, financial services, plus many other diverse organizations, including those in the public and not-for-profit sectors.

History

Cleveland SHRM’s roots go back to 1942 when the Cleveland Personnel Association was founded. In 1962 the Cleveland Chapter of the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA) was established, and officially affiliated with the National ASPA which was, at the time, located in Berea, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. In 1980 the Cleveland Personnel Association and the Cleveland ASPA merged to form the Greater Cleveland Personnel Council. In 1990 our chapter assumed its current name, the Cleveland Society for Human Resource Management, or Cleveland SHRM.

Mission

The Mission of the Cleveland Society for Human Resource Management (Cleveland SHRM) is to Develop HR Professionals to Advance Their Organizations. Cleveland SHRM exists to provide resources and opportunities for members at all levels to expand their knowledge to help achieve the goals of the organizations they work for.

Vision

The Vision or long term objective is that Cleveland SHRM will become the first resource in Northeast Ohio for all HR professionals. The goal is for Cleveland SHRM to be the first place that professionals in Northeast Ohio look to when they have a human resource need. The mission and vision are supported by four strategies - relevant programming, enhanced networking opportunities, development for experienced professionals and education for students and those transitioning into HR roles. In addition to these four strategies there is a strong commitment to giving back initiatives, particularly in Northeast Ohio.
