Session Overview:

Successful Veteran hiring and retention is a team sport. This session is designed to educate recruiters, HR teams, and hiring managers on the unique value of Veteran hiring, and actionable steps to boost your company’s performance with Veteran talent. The session will be led by Ohio Department of Veteran Services (ODVS) whose workforce training program is nationally certified by SHRM. Their mission is to empower Ohio employers with knowledge of military skill and culture so they can better recognize the advantages of hiring veterans as well as more effectively recruit and retain former service members as part of their workforce.

Learning Objectives:

  • Communicate the business value of hiring veterans, and align it with talent strategy
  • Discuss how to optimize veteran attraction and engagement
  • Discuss interviewing veterans, including nuances and actionable steps for success
  • Understand key military culture and structure that impact the screening and offer process.
  • Discuss and debunk myths about veterans as perceived by the media and civilian employers regarding mental health, employment, education and community integration
