Diversity & Inclusion SIG Meeting

More than a “Club”: How to Make Employee Resource Groups Matter

Date:  Thursday, May 23, 2019 (7:30 AM - 12:30 PM)

Location:  Corporate College East, Room 238 (Click here for directions and parking)

Session Description:

Did you know an average of 8.5% of employees in U.S. based companies belong to Employee Resource Groups (ERG)s? Or that 90% of Fortune 500 companies have ERGs?  This is an indication of employees wanting to engage their organization in a more structured and meaningful way. ERG’s can enhance individual and organizational effectiveness but are often underutilized and undervalued.

Please join Cleveland SHRM’s Diversity & Inclusion SIG for an in-depth workshop addressing how to effectively establish and grow an ERG within your organization. Derek Shields who is a Training Consultant with EARN (Employer Assistance and Resource Network) will be traveling in from Washington D.C. to share his knowledge. Additionally, there will be a diverse pool of local subject matter experts providing their unique perspectives.

During this session, you will learn the following objectives:

·       Describe affinity networks, employee resource groups and business resource groups.

·       Learn steps to develop and implement successful employee resource groups.

·       Understand how to mature an affinity group into a business resource strategy.

·       Identify 10 employee resource group resources.

·       Understand EARN services to assist employers in disability diversity.

·       Key components of successful ERG’S: Disability, Veteran, Women, LGBTQ, African American, and Latino/Hispanic
